Yalda came to Australia as a small child from Afghanistan in 1983 after her family fled Kabul when Russia invaded.

Jack Thompson
Jack Thompson, OAM, is a strong refugee advocate. He has acted in movies – The Man from Snowy River, Australia, Star Wars, Mao’s Last Dancer, The Sum of Us, ‘Breaker’ Morant, Broken Arrow and many others. He has also starred in many TV series.
Peter Singer, is an Australian philosopher, Professor of Bioethics, Princeton University, laureate professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE), University of Melbourne. He specialises in applied ethics, approaching ethical issues from a secular preference utilitarian perspective.
Phillip Adams, OAM, author of over 20 books, ABC broadcaster and film-maker. He is deeply concerned about refugee issues, and a great Sanctuary supporter.

Steve Biddulph
Steve Biddulph, Psychologist, Human Rights Advocate and one of the world’s best known parenting authors. Steve has been a long-time supporter of Sanctuary and is a big campaigner concerning human rights issues.

Alice Garner
Alice Garner, co-founder of Actors for Refugees, Refugee Advocate, Actor in the TV series such as Secret Life Us, SeaChange and films Jindabyne, Love and Other Catastrophes. She is also a published author.
Kate Atkinson, co-founder of Actors for Refugees, Actor in theatre, stars in TV series such as Seachange, Blue Heelers, Fat Cow Motel and The Cooks. She has been in films ‘Japanese Story’ and ‘The Jammed’. Kate is proud to play a part in Sanctuary’s work.
Anne Phelan, OAM, winner of 8 best actress awards, star of many Australian series and soap operas including Prisoner, Bluehealers, Neighbours, The Librarians and many others. She also has done performances with Actors for Refugees that tell the true story of refugees and asylum seekers.
Arnold Zable, writer, human rights advocate, and president of Melbourne International PEN. His books include ‘Jewels and Ashes’, ‘The Fig Tree’, ‘Café Scheherazade’, ‘Scraps of Heaven’ and ‘Sea of Many Returns’. He has written extensively about the plight of refugees and been involved in campaigns on their behalf.
